Tower Lighting with inbuilt securityTower lighting is often required for long-term rental situations where individual towers remain in-situ for long periods unattended. Traditional mobile tower lighting mounted on road going trailers can suffer from theft due to the relative ease with which they can be towed or moved. As tower lighting is regularly used to light areas in remote locations, there is an obvious temptation to some and occasionally towerlights attract the attention of casual thieves. Rental companies do have a solution to the potential problem of how to protect mobile tower lighting, which involves them jacking up the tower, removing the wheels and leaving it positioned on blocks. This is however both time consuming and inconvenient. SMC has provided a far more convenient solution to this problem by designing and manufacturing a static tower that has all the attributes of its mobile companion, model TL-90, yet has no wheels. SL-90 tower lighting is built around a Kubota diesel powered generator and features the same innovative fixed vertical design telescopic mast with hydraulic actuation, as TL–90. The heavy-duty 9 stage zinc plated mast, which can be rotated 360º, can reach full height in only 12 seconds and is raised electrically from the unit’s control panel. SL-90 weighs 933kgs dry and providing there is a handler, fork truck or lifting device handy on site, can easily be lifted thanks to 360º fork access or 4-point anti spin lifting eyes. SL-90 towerlights provide a simple solution to a long-term problem. SL-90 is compact both in transit mode and when deployed on site. 4 wind-down stabilizers when fully deployed not only provide adequate stability in winds, but are integral in ensuring the towerlight is level. A new mast safety feature has been incorporated on the SL-90, which features a deployment alarm and out of level sensor to eliminate the possibility of the mast being raised unless the unit is in a safe position. Although SL-90 towerlights are compact they still incorporate a large 130 Litre fuel tank. This enables an SL-90 towerlight to run for 85 hours between re-fuelling. If longer running is required there is an optional 950 Litre tank which couples to the SL-90 via a 3-way quick release valve. This allows 500 hours of continuous operation. SMC takes site lighting design very seriously and apart from its drive to build technically superior products, continually strives to minimise environmental impact. Similar to TL-90, the SL-90 avoids the potential of spills by retaining 120% of all engine liquids due to its full bunding. As a further precaution biodegradable oil is used in the hydraulic system. SL-90 is also supersilent during operation, emitting noise levels of only 61dB[A] approx @ 7 Metres. Also available on SL-90 site lighting is the Autorun timer module, an innovation that once set can automatically switch on SL-90 at dusk and off again at dawn. SMC believes that towerlights fitted with Autorun will deliver significant cost savings to the owner, the contractor or user. Autorun saves on fuel, labour, engine maintenance and spare parts as a result of timed operation. And a further contribution to reducing environmental impact is achieved due to less exhaust emissions.
